The history of Gelderland The history of Gelderland starts in 1936. In that year, Koene Oberman received 200 guilders from his father (a Frisian timbermerchant) to start a business. He started his company in the former Locomotive shed in Culemborg, a city with a long tradition in traditional furniture manufacturing. He was one of the first to start serial production of furniture. His company was named 'Furniture Industry Gelderland'.
