Mats Theselius "Sven" armchairs

Mats Theselius (born 1956) is an interior decorator, artist and designer who has designed several of the most noted Swedish furniture appearing since the 1990s. His debut was in 1985 with the characteristic Älgskinnsfåtöljen (elk skin easy chair) a cylindrical armchair made of elk leather, which evolved into a true design classic. His form is Nordic but his furniture speaks just as much an international language.

To this day, Theselius is active in many areas and does not put itself in any drawer: moving freely between art and design furniture, lighting, object design, exhibitions, installations, set designs and even music, films and books. Theselius also designs pottery and jewelry, he makes patterns for carpets and works with installations, exhibitions and projects.

Some of his best known designs are the club chair Rex (1994), El Rey (1999) and the Embassy chair (1999) for the Swedish Embassy in Berlin. Theselius has also made an international career and received several prestigious design assignments. Since 1989 Theselius issues most of his furniture in collaboration with furniture maker Källemo.
