Eje Ahlgren (1917-1986) was a Swedish furniture designer and interior architect known for his innovative and functional designs. He studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack) in Stockholm, and later worked as a designer for several leading furniture manufacturers in Sweden.
Ahlgren's furniture designs were characterized by their clean lines, simple forms, and functionalism. He was known for his use of high-quality materials and his attention to detail, and his designs often incorporated elements of traditional Swedish furniture, such as birch wood and woven textiles.
One of Ahlgren's most famous designs is the "Lilla Åland" chair, which he designed in 1955. The chair is a classic example of Scandinavian modern design, with its light, airy form and use of natural materials. The "Lilla Åland" chair was produced by several leading Swedish furniture manufacturers, including Gärsnäs and Karl Andersson & Söner, and it continues to be a popular piece among collectors of mid-century modern furniture.
In addition to his furniture designs, Ahlgren also worked as an interior architect, designing interiors for hotels, restaurants, and public buildings. His work was highly influential in Sweden and beyond, and his legacy lives on through the continued popularity of his furniture designs and his contributions to Swedish design history.
