Highback slat armchair by Bas van Pelt

After working as an interior designer for seven years, Van Pelt took over the Corn Firm in The Hague ‘‘van der Sluys’’ on the Lange Houtstraat.This furniture interior company was founded in 1908 by Cornelis van der Sluys and H.T. Coolwijk. Van Pelt gave this company a new name: My Home.

In the years that followed, he established branches in other cities. A My Home was established in Amsterdam, in Maastricht he established art hall De Gulden Roos and art hall Het Binnenhuis in Enschede. In 1936, Van Pelt founded an architectural firm with Jan Piets, which designed several country houses.

Van Pelt was an innovative designer for his time. He worked exclusively in the modern field. His style was in line with the Amsterdam School and the Bauhaus.
